On the Set of Grandfathered with John Stamos and Cast

Remember when I went on my last Disney press trip this past November? I had so many amazing experiences including a set visit of FOX’s Grandfathered. This show is so funny and who doesn’t want to watch a show starring John Stamos? Yes, have mercy is right!

In Grandfathered, John Stamos (Jimmy) plays a confirmed bachelor that quickly discovers he’s a dad–and a grandfather. Every episode is a big adventure for him and his restaurant, Jimmy’s, along with Kelly Jenrette who plays restaurant manager and chef, Ravi Patel.

He just found out he’s got a kid who’s got a kid.

In the first episode Jimmy meets his twenty-something year old son (Josh Peck), who he never knew he had, that shows up with his little girl (Jimmy’s granddaughter). You’ll quickly meet Jimmy’s ex-girlfriend (Paget Brewster) who is the mother of his son. You’ll also meet Josh Peck’s (playing Gerald) girlfriend and mother of Jimmy’s granddaughter (Christina Milian).

We got a chance to sit down with the cast including John Stamos, Josh Peck (Gerald), Paget Brewster (Sara), Christina Milian (Vanessa), Kelly Jenrette (Annelise) and Ravi Patel (Ravi).

Our interviews took place on set in Jimmy’s Restaurant. We either sat at the bar or in a booth interviewing cast members two at a time. As soon as we arrived John Stamos went behind the bar and asked if we wanted a drink. He is very charming!

John Stamos and Paget Brewster

John Stamos is actually an executive producer on the show and very involved. He said he loves doing family comedy and loved the idea of the show. Not only is he very charming but a very nice guy. He explained to us how his parents never wanted him to get a big head and made him work “normal” jobs, like cleaning up dog poop in the backyard, when he started acting. He worked at his dad’s fast food restaurant while working on General Hospital because his dad wouldn’t let him quit.

I loved how John showed so much love and compassion for his cast mates, especially Paget Brewster. He talked about what an amazing actress and person she is. She was so nice and does such an amazing job playing Sara on the show. I keep wondering when her and John’s character will get back together on the show!

John even sent us an email to all of us separately on the press trip to thank us for visiting with them. It made us feel so special!

Josh Peck and Christina Milian

Christina Milian is a single mother in real life just like her character on the show. On the show she shares a child (Jimmy’s granddaughter) with Josh Peck. She shared with us how it can be challenging balancing work and parenting just like it is on the show.

Josh Peck said he feels like the show really represents many families as they are today. Even though many families today aren’t traditional, they are co-parenting and still giving so much love and happiness.

Christina was actually on Dancing with the Stars in the past and Josh is currently taking dance lessons in his spare time. Maybe they’ll have some dancing on a future episode!

Kelly Jenrette and Ravi Patel

Kelly Jenrette and Ravi Patel work in Jimmy’s Restaurant on the show. These two are so funny! Ravi actually plays a chef on the new show but he quickly admitted that his new wife is a much better cook than him. Be sure to learn about his project he’s working on below!

Kelly Jenrette said Grandfathered is her first major network role after 9 years. Acting can be tough when you’re waiting on the perfect part! She is absolutely perfect playing the role of manager in Jimmy’s Restaurant. She said she did a slow clap after reading the script for the first time because it had a witty, dry and sarcastic humor.

On tonight’s episode Jimmy is tricked into going to the doctor on an all-new Grandfathered, guest starring Dr. Phil McGraw (“The Dr. Phil Show”).

After hearing that Jimmy hasn’t been to the doctor in over ten years, Sara and Gerald trick him into seeing their family doctor (Dr. Phil McGraw) for a routine physical, which results in an unsettling discovery. Meanwhile, Gerald and Vanessa stress over Edie’s upcoming surgery and Annelise and Ravi stumble upon Jimmy’s secret safe.
