NYC Boutique Hotel Near Central Park and Midtown Tourist Attractions
Last week I was in New York City on business and wanted to find the perfect hotel in the perfect location. Since my sister has lived in Manhattan she gave me some pointers on what areas are best and what areas to avoid. She said a hotel near Central Park and many tourist attractions would be the perfect location to stay. My mom and my son came with me so I wanted them to be able to take in some of the sites while I was busy working. Keep in mind that I live on a farm and going to Manhattan where I’m encouraged to not a rent a car is a BIG adjustment for me. We found the absolute perfect boutique hotel in the perfect location… Hotel Elysée.
Hotel Elysée is located on East 54th Street between Park and Madison Avenues. Perfect! Once we arrived at La Guardia airport I was surprised at the short time it took us to arrive at our hotel… well, minus the crazy New York traffic. Oh my gosh, how do these people take all this traffic everyday? It’s just insane! The hotel actually seemed calm compared to all the hustle and bustle of Manhattan around it. The street was a bit quieter but still within walking distance of the Manhattan crowds.
Once we arrived to the entrance of the hotel, I felt like I could have driven up in a swanky green Austin-Healey convertible looking like Megan from “Mad Men” and Don Draper would come out to whisk me away. Okay, maybe that was me daydreaming but did you know that Hotel Elysée was actually in a “Mad Men” scene? It featured Peggy and Duck, from a rival agency. So, of course it’s only right that they offer a “Mad Men” package!
When we arrived we were immediately greeted by the doorman/bellman who was very courteous and friendly. He quickly helped us with our luggage and showed us to the front desk. The lobby of the hotel was absolutely gorgeous, very clean and quiet. Check-in was very professional and quick. We were shown to our King Suite very quickly and were asked if we needed anything or any help around the city. The hotel had an elevator and stairs with easy access.
Our Room – King Suite The King Suite is a one bedroom suite and according to my sister it is quite large for a New York hotel room in at 600 square feet. It featured a bedroom with King sized bed, desk and sitting chairs, a separate living room with a sitting area, an armoire, dining area, kithcenette and a queen-size pull out sofa. Room also features:
- Mini bar
- 2 Flat Panel LCD Television
- Hair dryers
- In Room Safes
- Complimentary High Speed Wireless Internet Access
- Writing Desk
- iHome MP3 Dock / Alarm Clock Radio
- Voicemail
- Cotton Robes
- Gilchrist & Soames Bath Amenities
- Marble Bathrooms
- Windows that Open
- Individual temperature control
When we arrived to our room we were instantly amazed at the gorgeous decor… I would like to say a European/French style decor. The furniture and decor gives off a very luxurious feel. The flooring to the bathroom was marble and the light fixtures looked gold plated. Absolutely stunning!
We loved that they offered a daily Continental breakfast we could enjoy in the Club Room on the second floor or bring back to our rooms. It included pastries, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit, cold and hot cereals, boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, freshly brewed coffee, tea, espresso and cappuccino. Cookies, fresh fruit, coffees and teas available throughout the day. Evening reception including Prosecco, fine wines, imported and domestic cheeses and hors d’oeuvres offered each evening from 5 to 8 pm. I wish we could have gone for “happy hour” but with my son I didn’t feel like it was the appropriate place to take him. Next time for sure!
We did order room service one night and got some delicious desserts delivered from the hotel’s famous Monkey Bar. It is one of the hottest and most world renowned restaurants in NYC. As stated above, it has been featured in “Mad Men” and also been featured in “Sex in the City”.
It was nice having complimentary wireless high speed internet. Apparently it is often an additional fee when staying in Manhattan. They also offer a computer for guest use in the Library on the second floor. They also offer daily passes to the nearby New York Sports Club featuring a full range of cardio and strength-training equipment and aerobic, cycling and body-sculpting classes! You can also enjoy complimentary library of books, and DVD’s during your stay.

Best Customer Service – Manhattan is not the Midwest where everyone waves as you meet them in your car, you run over to your neighbor’s to borrow sugar or you stop to take a few moments just to ask how their day is going. As I walked the streets of Manhattan I rarely had someone say excuse me, thank you or any kind word for that matter. Hotel Elysée was a breath of fresh air among the busy streets of Manhattan. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. During my stay in the city it was refreshing to come back to be greeted with a smile.
About Hotel Elysée Built in the 1920’s, the Hotel Elysée is named for one of the finest French Restaurants of that era. Perfect for both the first time visitor and the travel expert, the Hotel Elysée offers superior personal service that many larger five star hotels cannot match. Hotel Elysée is located on East 54th Street between Park and Madison Avenues. Among all hotels close to Central Park, Elysée is an oasis of luxury, elegance and calm in bustling Manhattan.

I love boutique hotels in large cities. Thanks for the review.
Awesome place to stay. Looks so pretty. The king suite would be the best choice for me too! And that treat from the Monkey Bar looks yummy. I have never been to NYC, but I would love to go.
Wow, this looks wonderful. We are planning a trip to NYC now…I’m gonna check this out.
