Maleficent Movie Review
I have been anxiously awaiting the release of Maleficent for some time now. I just knew a mix of the story of Sleeping Beauty and Angelina Jolie had to be good.
It just HAD to be!
Growing up with the Disney fairy tale stories and they are cherished memory of mine especially the story of Sleeping Beauty. I was so excited to take my nine year old son to the pre-screening of Maleficent a few nights ago. He was as excited as me to finally be seeing it. We had waited for this moment for months!
The movie beings with the beautiful fairy, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) growing up in a peaceful forest kingdom among fairies and other unique characters that are sure to make your children smile. In the beginning of the movie, you are introduced to three funny fairies Flittle (Lesley Manville), Knotgrass (Imelda Staunton) and Thistlewit (Juno Temple). They play an important part in Aurora’s (Elle Fanning) life. They sure are fun to watch.
Maleficent grows to be an evil villain due to betrayal and an invading army threatening her precious forest. Maleficent is forced into battle with the king’s successor. In return Maleficent places an evil curse upon his newborn daughter, Aurora.
Maleficent watches Aurora grow into a young woman. Maleficent finally realizes who holds the key to peace for her kingdom and how she can have true happiness.
Of course, you’ll learn all about a dramatic twist and the true story of Maleficent when you see the movie this weekend!
Review
We absolutely LOVED the movie! Maleficent is simply magnificent! Angelina Jolie is absolutely PERFECT for the character. Elle Fanning was absolutely amazing as Aurora. I know there has been some concern as whether it is too scary for young children. My son is nine years old and loved it. He did not find it to be scary. I would say use your own judgement for your own children. Very small children might get scared but I would have taken my son if he were five. I know him and know what he can handle when it comes to the big screen. Remember, it’s rated PG.
I love that Disney took a different approach with dark aspects to this film with the villain. It is a breath of fresh air for me! Even though Sleeping Beauty is geared toward a young female audience, I would definitely take boys to this movie. It is FANTASTIC!
We give Maleficent FIVE Moustaches!
