How To Choose The Right Sleeping Mattress
Studies show that many of us will spend a huge portion of their lives sleeping, and quality of sleep is one of the most important factors when it comes to our health, well-being and overall mood and state of mind. A sleeping mattress is a must if you want to achieve a more comfortable sleep that will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, and the importance of a good quality, comfortable one that is right for you and your needs simply cannot be overstated.
There are lots of things to consider when choosing a mattress to buy, and with so many available in stores, it’s important to think about what you need. A good mattress that suits you can last many years, so investing time and effort is worthwhile. Here are some of the key things to look out for when shopping for your new mattress.
Try before you buy
Tempting though it may be to take the quick and easy route and order a mattress online to be delivered right to your door, don’t even think about it until you’ve tried it out in the store first. Trying before you buy is a necessity for things like this, and not trying it out could only lead to disappointment and bad night’s of sleep down the road. Test out mattresses in stores, and don’t be afraid to spend more than 5 minutes lying down to really get a feel for it.
Soft or firm – what’s your preference?
There’s no right answer here, and everyone has different preferences. Do you find a harder mattress, a soft one, or one in between most comfortable? Think about it and let the shop attendant know so they can point you in the right direction in store.
Size
Choosing a mattress that fits your body is crucial, and as everyone is shaped differently, you need to test them out and see how your body reacts before making a decision. If you can’t get comfy or find parts of your body are being strained or are not well supported, skip to the next option.
Thickness
Many people make the mistake of thinking that just because a mattress is thick, it will automatically be very comfortable to sleep on, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Don’t go by sight alone, and don’t just try out the thicker mattresses. Some thinner ones are just as comfy, if not more so. It’s all about testing them out.
Other things to consider are noise, price tag and the return policy. With mattresses, you don’t really need to stick with brands, as most mattresses are made by the same companies anyway and you will be paying over the odds for basically nothing.

We need a new mattress, I like my firm but a little on the soft side. And thickness is the key for me. Great tips here! Price is also a great factor.

Some great tips. We need a new mattress and I am just starting my research but about a year ago I was testing some at Macy’s by laying down on them and I was surprised by the difference in each one. I think the try before you buy is a must.

Thank you for the great tips. Our mattress is really old and really needs to be replaced. We have been looking at new ones and it is so hard to decide unless you sleep on it for about a week or two.
