Every Bite Takes You Home
The Hundred-Foot Journey comes out in theaters everywhere in just a few short weeks. We’ve been sharing tons of great recipes with you inspired by the film. Have you made any of them yet? I haven’t but I am anxious to for sure! I love cooking especially from scratch. I love to be able to go to our garden and pick fresh herbs, vegetables and fruit. My apple trees are so full this year I will be canning them for months!
In keeping with the theme of the movie, Every Bite Takes you Home, I would love to learn about what bite takes YOU home. Although my mom is an excellent cook I would say the memories I have with my grandmother in the kitchen are definitely an inspiration. I cook supper from scratch nearly every night. I rarely buy an already prepared meal. I rarely shop in the frozen food section or even the center aisles of the grocery store. I was raised and still live on a farm so think bacon, eggs, steak…
My brother has Cystic Fibrosis and always had a hard time gaining weight. When we were little my grandma would bake a new pie (entirely from scratch) every day (I’m not kidding, it was every day) and bring to us so my brother could fatten up as she liked to call it. Her coconut cream pie was my absolute favorite and every time I take a bite of one it takes me back in her kitchen (we actually live on their farm now so that makes it kind of silly to say it takes me back – ha ha), back home to where I love. It’s the memories that are so important to me and being able to live on my grandparents farm is amazing. It truly is the one place in the world I love to be!
In DreamWorks Pictures’ The Hundred-Foot Journey, the opening of a new Indian restaurant in the south of France, next to a famous Michelin starred eatery, is nearly cause for an all-out war between the two establishments until Le Saule Pleureur’s icy proprietress Madame Mallory recognizes her rival’s undeniable brilliance for preparing masterful meals.
