2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel Review
We were so excited to be able to review the 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel! We drive diesel trucks so we were excited to see that Chevy had came out with a diesel car. We put a lot of miles up and down the road since we live in a rural area and we enjoy the fuel mileage we get with diesels. The Chevy Cruze diesel did not let us down. Plus, there is nothing truck-like for this diesel car. It’s definitely going to be giving the other diesel cars a run for their money! I’m going to say that this is the best diesel car on the market today!
I drove this car nearly 800 miles the week I had it. It had a full tank of fuel when I got it and I only had to put $20 of fuel in it one time. I got anywhere from 35 to 50 miles per gallon! Driving through town and stop lights of course is going to make the fuel mileage decrease. I had my husband snap the pic below from the backseat while driving down the road. I wanted you to see that this is the actual fuel mileage we got with this car.
A lot of people think that a diesel car might be loud. Compared to our diesel trucks this is a very quiet car. In the video below I wanted for you to be able to hear it going down the road and started. I love the sound of it but I am a fan of anything diesel.
I completely failed to get video of the interior! At least I have a checklist now for when we review other cars. I felt like I was in such a rush only having it a week. The video above is only a tiny fraction of the amount of times we drove it back and forth. My mom and husband were in a vehicle in front of us and it took MANY takes before we got something. It was… go slower… go faster… you’re too close!
My husband and I both drove the car. It obviously is a little different than driving your average gas engine. We absolutely LOVED driving it. It has a lot of get up and go for a diesel engine. Normally you aren’t taking off quickly in a stock diesel so we were pleasantly surprised. If you drive a lot of miles up and down the highway, this is definitely the car for you. It handles great driving down the road. Such a nice car to drive.
The trunk had ample room for what I used it for. One day I attended our local Amish produce auction and filled the trunk with lots of tomatoes for canning. I had plenty of room to fit more.
Another day I made a trip to the farm store and loaded the trunk down with sweet ford, corn, oyster shells and chicken feed. I was already unloading it so the picture below doesn’t show how full I actually had it. I snapped a pic half way through unloading but you get the idea! These are 50 lb bags of feed, just so you know. My bag of oyster shells for the chickens had a big hole in it which I didn’t see until I unloaded it. That’s why there is white stuff all over… I cleaned it up immediately!
The interior of the car was very comfortable. The leather appointed seats were so nice. We loved the Chevrolet MyLink, hands-free smartphone integration with Pandora and Stitcher, bluetooth, audio-streaming and voice-activation. We also enjoyed the XM radio service they offered to us. My son enjoyed connecting his iPad with the USB port. The songs on his iPad came on the screen and we could easily select which ones we wanted to listen to. It comes up as an iPod but the iPad worked fine. We never did try his iPod touch but I did happen to have my iPod shuffle with me one day and it would not work.
It also had remote vehicle start and heated seats which are so great for the winter time.
If I had to change anything about the car, it might be to make the interior and leg room larger. My husband did feel a little snug in it at 6’2″ but I felt like it had plenty of room for me and I’m 5’9″ tall. He did say he thought it would be fine for our family. If you have a family of four it is perfect unless you all have extremely long legs 🙂 And that may be our case soon since our son is very tall!

This car looks like a sweet ride thanks for the great review!
Thats a great looking car! I didn’t realize that Chevy made diesel cars! Good to know!
Not only did that show your gas mileage but your speed… 🙂 lol That is an awesome car!
Sweet ride 🙂
We love our 2013 Chevy Cruze, but we chose not to go with the diesel. A local Chevy dealer told us unless we were trading in a vehicle getting under 20 mpg that it wasn’t worth getting a diesel. We had a vehicle getting 27-29 mpg already. The Cruze is an awesome car!
The car looks great! It seems like a nice car to go to-from work so you won’t have a gas guzzler. I couldn’t stop looking at the tomato bins, they look very good!
I’m surprised at how much trunk space it has.
I love this car wish I could afford one
Pretty cool car, didn’t know they made the Chevy Cruze in a diesel. I love how big the trunk is!
Great review! Looks like a fun car!
It’s surprising to hear how comfortable and quite the diesel is. The ones I’ve ridden in the past were terrible! Good for Chevy.
we are in the market for a new car and all info helps – thx
I love the style of this car. I’ve been a mini-van mom for TOO many years and it won’t be long before I start looking for something like this. I’d want it in blue.
I love the look of this car and the fact that it is a diesel. Thanks for showing the trunk space it looks like you can fit a lot
That looks like a really nice car! I’ve never driven a diesel, so I would have to do some research into it. My car is 16 years old, so I’m going to have to be thinking about a new one soon. Sure would love to test drive one!
I think this a great looking car. I can’t believe the gas mileage it gets…fabulous!
I don’t think that I realized that the Chevy Cruze had a diesel engine. I currently have a Saturn that gets great gas mileage, but that mileage is incredible! Unfortunately diesel is quite a bit more expensive around here, but it would probably be worth it.
I love the way it looks! I so want a new car and I love Chevy’s. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Love it!
Such a nice looking car! Can’t complain about the gas milage on that either.
The car looks really nice and if it is going to get that kind of gas mileage than it might be worth getting a diesel
What a cool car!
Wow, that’s a cool car!!! It looks like a fun car to drive!
Good information I would not try a diesel but now I would test drive it too. Thanks for sharing.
That looks like a really fun car to drive!
Thanks nice!
What a great looking car! I really love that you included a video to show how loud (which I don’t think it was loud at all) the car was. Great review!
This is really a nice looking car! I really like the setup on the inside on the dash. This color looks really nice on the car too.
This looks like an awesome car! We are going to be looking at vehicles for our teenage son soon and this might be added to the list.
Looks so sleek and love the dashboard!
Wow, I learned something and that is that Diesel gets good milage. I never knew that. Thanks for the review.
I actually like diesel cars/trucks, too. My dad drove diesel cars and he did get really good gas miles on it – i am just sad that the price for diesel is more than the price for regular gas – does not make sense to me – oh that would be the government interfering again! I digress – this sounds like a great car, thanks for the review!
i like the trunk space
Very impressive. We are in the market for a new car and I wouldn’t have thought to consider this one. Now it will be on our list.
pretty and crazy car for fans..
I think my comment was eaten 🙁 Anyway, my sister recently bought the 2013 gas version, its SO nice! The features really can’t be beat. I drive a “luxury” vehicle, and I don’t have nearly as many bells and whistles. Really nice car!
Thank you for the in-depth review.–Joanne C.
I find this trend toward diesel engines to be interesting….nice review, but my next car will be electric!
Not a big fan of Chevy, but this car looks nice!
i would love this car.
Wow! Glad to hear it get such a good review. My husband works at GM. I’ve never driven a diesel – I still think truck when I think diesel – but now that more cars are going that way I will have to think about it.
I love the dashboard! Great gas mileage, I don’t know anyone who has a diesel card but I will be sharing your reviews….thank you!
Looks like a good car for a diesel. I’ve never had one. I’d rather get an electric car for my next one (in about 10 years)
I love Chevy’s and I love this car!
35-50 mpg….sounds great! heated seats and remote starter-love! If I ever have few enough people living with me that a little car would work…it may be tempting
Wow, 700 miles on one tank? That is amazing.
The gas mileage sounds amazing! I love all the air bags. Safety is important to me because I have so many kiddos I want safe!
We actually bought a cruze a few months ago, not a deisel. We love it. I was skeptical at first as Chevy isn’t my car of choice but it has been great for us.
Wow! That’s really nice! It looks great on doesn’t seem too loud like you would think a disel would be! Would love to try this car out!!
Diesel car, very nice.Doesn’t make you think diesel either.
That’s strange to have such a small vehicle as a diesel, very nice car though, and great review guys!
Looks like there is so much room inside. Thanks for the review!
WOW, what a nce car, thanks for the information
I never heard of anyone getting to use a car for reviews – that’s awesome! Love the gas mileage this one gets.
we haven’t owned a car in a long time only SUVs and minivans, this car looks nice
I like how it gets an estimated 46 mg on the highway!
Wow! It gets great gas mileage! How did you get to review a car? Awesome!
I love that your able to have a color touch radio and USB ports. I would love to have this car.
we are going to driving one of those to ohio this week wow
I had a Chevy when I was younger and I loved it! It looks like their cars have only gotten better with age.
My brother has a Cruz, but not the diesel one. Surprisingly roomy for what it appears. It’s definitely a nice looking car.
We’ve always been a Chevy family. This actually looks quite roomy for what the size of the car looks like!
great article/ review !! looks very roomy and fun 🙂
looks really nice, id buy one
Awesome! I didn’t know Chevy had a diesel option – my husband will be very interested in this. He’s been looking into the TDIs from VW.
that’s the car I’d buy if I was driving but since I do not drive I’d recommend it to everyone I know through your review here.
sweet
I have been looking into this vehicle! Thanks for the review!
My brother always drove diesel cars and just loves them. Also thanks for this personal review because my auntie was curious about this specific model and now I can tell her what I have heard!
Thanks for the review. Cars with excellent gas mileage are of top importance to me.
That is a cool car- I had no idea it was so neat!
That was impressive on gas mileage, the dash gadgets, and the spacious trunk Wowzer

I am surprised that it was this quiet. I hate hearing diesel trucks go down my street.
Great review! Love all the bells and whistles this car has to offer! So cool that its a diesel!
we got to drive a Chevy Cruze on a trip last year and we loved it. It wasn’t diesel, but that’s pretty cool!
We desperately need a new car, I like this one!
My wife and I are in the market for a new car, so I would definitely consider the Chevy Cruz. It looks like a comfortable ride.
This is a nice looking car. I have never really though of a diesel car before. Thanks for the information
I could sooo use that gas mileage!!!
Love the shape of this car, and the five star rating.
That is beautiful!
Sounds like a great car!!
This sounds like a great car with fantastic fuel mileage! I love Chevy cars! Plus with it being diesel, it would last longer than regular gasoline cars, too!
I love the Chevy Cruze especially the gas mileage since we take a lot of trips.
I love the design, the 5 star safety rating and the fuel savings.
This car looks very nice. Thanks for the interesting and informative review!
My friend has a chevy cruz and she loves it!
