Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Review – Am I a Star Wars Fan?

Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Review

I was invited by Disney on an all-expense paid trip. All opinions are my own.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Review

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous to see the newest Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. I actually hadn’t seen a Star Wars movie since I was a child in the 1980’s but I was excited to dive in and see what this Star Wars craze is all about. I’m sure you can find millions of reviews of the movie online from longtime Star Wars fans but not near as many for first timers. So, I thought it would be great to bring a fresh perspective and write this review solely based on how I perceived this movie instead of comparing it to all the rest.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Review

As you know after reading my Solo: A Star Wars Story World Premiere & Red Carpet Experience, I watched the new movie in the Dolby Theatre. That’s incredible in itself to be able to be in the same theater where so many talented celebrities have walked across the stage for an Oscar. Of course, watching it with the cast and creators of the film was pretty amazing.

It was time to board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away…

Storyline

During an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) hustles to survive to get off the world of Corrilia with his love Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke). Han meets his future copilot Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and encounters Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), along with L3-37 (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) years before joining the Rebellion. Along the way Han meets partners Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and Val (Thandie Newton) as well as encountering villain Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany).

Perfect for the Family

There is a lot of adult humor in the movie which I absolutely love. However, I didn’t notice anything that would be inappropriate for the kids to watch. Honestly, the humor reminded me a little of Guardians of the Galaxy which is pretty great. It is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and violence. I definitely will take my 13 year old son to see it and I think he’ll absolutely love it!

The Cast and Creators

I’ll be sharing several interviews with you over the next few weeks of the cast and Director Ron Howard. I’ll go into more detail on each character then but I will say that I thought each actor was cast perfectly for their roles. I have been a huge fan of Ron Howard since he was little Opie Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show” and I love that he was brought on to now be a part of the Star Wars franchise as the director of the movie.

Alden Ehrenreich, Joonas Suotamo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Paul Bettany are all perfectly cast in their roles. I can’t wait to share my interviews with you all so we can dive deeper into each character!

Must See Summer Movie

Solo: A Star Wars Story is the perfect summer movie for you to enjoy with your family. The Star Wars family has definitely gained a new fan and I’m excited that I’ve started my new Star Wars adventure with Solo: A Star Wars Story! The cinematography is incredible in this movie and has you feeling like you’re aboard the Millennium Falcon. I can’t wait to see if the adventures for young Han Solo continue with more new movies.
