A few weeks ago Focus Features invited me to Los Angeles to screen the new movie Tully that hits theaters this weekend, May 4th! The movie is vital and a must-see for every mom. Written by Diablo Cody, it brings back what we all loved with her movies, Juno and Young Adult. Charlize Theron is outstanding as Tully, creating an incredible connection to moms everywhere! Check out my review of Tully below and then I’ve got some great cocktail suggestions to make movie night even more fun for all you moms!

All of the characters in this movie are captured perfectly by the actors playing the roles. I loved every character in the movie in different ways. Mark Duplass is incredible as the rich brother while Ron Livingston depicts the role of the husband brilliantly. Mackenzie Davis is perfect as the nanny, Tully.
It’s exciting that this film reunites director Jason Reitman, writer Diablo Cody and star Charlize Theron, all of whom previously collaborated on Young Adult (2011). It’s so great when you see cast and/or creators work on more projects together. Charlize and Jason discuss this when we interviewed them after we screened the movie. I’ll be sharing all the details of our interviews soon!

Story: A new comedy from Academy Award®-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).

I love the great depths Charlize goes to bring her characters to life. She gained fifty pounds to play the role of Marlo which captures the struggles of real moms everywhere. It definitely makes it easier to relate to her character because many moms and women know how hard it can be to lose that weight after childbirth. She portrays motherhood in the most perfect, honest way.
Before the screening a few weeks ago, Refinary 29 hosted a fun event for us to mingle and have fun before the Tully movie screening.
We got to enjoy delicious appetizers and two signature cocktails, The Tully and The Marlo. Are you a Tully or Marlo?
I’ve included recipes below for the Tully movie cocktails. Get together with the girls before the movie and have some (or several) cocktails! Or, go a step further and create a Tully themed before or after movie party! The perfect drinks for a mom’s night out!
Be sure to check out the video below of these fun Tully movie cocktail creations!
