I was recently asked who the Wonder Woman is in my life and what she means to me. Without hesitation I answered; my mother. To me that woman is compassionate, caring, though stubborn, she is the perfect role model. She is hard-working and puts others before herself.
I really got to thinking about this when I came across the Wonder Woman-themed Dr Pepper cans at Walmart the other day. You’ll have to check it out! You can find it on Dr Pepper, Diet Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Cherry and Diet Dr Pepper Cherry.
Dr Pepper wants you to appreciate the Wonder Woman in your life and has asked me to share my story. That story is about my mom, the one person in my life that I could truly call a Wonder Woman.
My mom, and my dad, are the reason I am a very hard worker. I don’t think this is something that is necessarily easily taught. It’s something I saw every day growing up. I knew no different. I can remember my mom driving several hours a day to put herself through nursing school only to come home to help us with homework and then she’d stay up half the night studying. She always put us first.
Every time I see the Wonder Woman-themed Dr Pepper cans at Walmart, or in my fridge, I think of my mom and the sacrifices she made to raise my brother, sister and I. Speaking of my incredible brother, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of seven, had a bi-lateral lung transplant more than ten years ago. During his wait on the transplant list my mom changed jobs to move with him five hours away so he could be near the hospital while awaiting his new lungs. She sacrificed everything to better our lives.
Now that I am married, my husband, our son and I live only a few short miles from my parents. Although we are all busy working nonstop, I do get to see them every day. Every evening we enjoy feeding our animals together and doing work around the farms. Of course, my mom and I always enjoy taking pictures and videos of all the animals. My mom has even started her own blogs and Instagram accounts where she shares about her passion of gardening and love for the farm and animals.
One thing I love the most about my mom is the time she spends with our son. He loves going over to my parents and a weekly sleepover is a must for him at Grandma-ma and Pa’s house. No, it’s not lazy days at their house. My parents put him to work and he loves every minute of it.
My mom and our son can work for hours outdoors and in the garden on the hottest days in the summer. It has taught our son a lot about hard-work and he has so much joy in caring for the gardens he and my mom have created.
I’m sure by now you understand that you won’t find my mom enjoying a Dr Pepper lounging on the couch. Instead, you’ll find her in the garden on a hot day working on the farm or maybe even dressed up as a character like the Easter bunny sharing a special day with family. That’s why I call her my Wonder Woman.
Of course, I can’t leave out my dad. Should we say Wonder Man? Both of my parents are absolutely amazing people. I could not have asked for more perfect parents. In fact, I’m going to head over to their house now to enjoy the unique taste of Dr Pepper and the Wonder Woman-themed cans I picked up at Walmart. And don’t forget to see the new Wonder Woman movie when it hits theaters on June 2!
