Here in Northern Missouri we get to enjoy the four changing seasons and fall just happens to be my absolute favorite! It’s so gorgeous outdoors with our gorgeous lawn and beautiful changing leaves. Fall is the perfect time to savor the last of our warm days and enjoy our lawn.
When you live on a farm like we do fall means preparing the outdoors before those cold winter months come along. Fall harvest is starting up around here too. Of course, I always love to decorate my yard for fall before any real work begins. I was so excited to be asked to work on this sponsored post for Grass Seed USA to share not only my love for fall but also the enjoyment we get out of our lawn.
Spring is perfect for starting our gardens but don’t forget how important planting is in the fall. You’ll want to plant those spring-blooming bulbs, cool-season vegetables, perennials, trees, shrubs and don’t forget to sow your grass seed in the fall. Fall is the perfect time to prep your yard. A healthy green lawn is so inviting for all the fun outdoor activities. We love fall baseball!
If you don’t have a lawn or are looking to expand your lawn, fall is a great time to seed. Before you plant a new lawn, talk to your local garden shop or university extension agent to identify the type of grass that will best meet your needs, taking into consideration the location, level of use, sun exposure, drainage, and so on. For easy-to-follow tips on seeding a lawn, from ground preparation to caring for new grass, see www.weseedamerica.com/planting.
It seems like we always have a few areas in our lawn that get thin by the end of summer. If your lawn is looking thin, or if you need to fill in some bare patches, fall is the time to reseed. Again, be sure to talk to a turf specialist at a garden shop or university extension agent to find out what type of seed is best for your lawn conditions. Spread the seed over your existing lawn and then water lightly and regularly, making sure the reseeded areas stay moist until the new grass grows in. By seeding in the fall, you’ll reduce the need to make repairs in the spring and jump right back in to enjoying your grass.
We love having outdoor get-togethers and enjoy backyard entertaining in the fall. The outdoors is gorgeous with a beautiful bonfire. The kids always enjoy making their own s’mores and enjoying fun Halloween themed games. We sit out straw bales for seating and grill up a delicious meal for everyone. It’s always a big hit!
Our son loves taking a blanket out on the lawn just to lay on to enjoy the outdoors. We play with our vast assortment of pets – cats, chickens, goats, etc. It’s always a lot of fun with a cool breeze. The calm of the outdoors is why I love living in the country. The beauty of our outdoors is so amazing.
One of my favorite parts of fall is decorating our yard. I’ve shared how to decorate your yard for fall and I’ve even taught you how to make cornstalk bundles for your yard. Don’t forget that mums thrive during the fall months and are a gorgeous addition to any lawn.
We have to get started on prepping our lawn and enjoying it early in the fall because you never know when that first snow will hit! The seasons area always changing here in Missouri and I couldn’t love it more!
