I was sent product from Honeywell to review. All opinions are my own.

Whether or not you have air conditioning in your home, during those summer heat waves it can get rather hot. We spend a lot of time out in the summer sun so we like to be able to come in to a cool house.

Here’s some great tips on how to survive the summer heat while indoors:

Get Downstairs. Heat rises so if you have a lower level in  your home it will be the place to cool off the fastest. A basement is even better! Our basement stays extra cool all summer long.

Choose Cotton. Select light-colored cotton sheets to cool off on those hot summer nights in bed. Lightweight cotton is breathable and allows your body to cool off easier. We love our PeachSkinSheets.

Adjust Ceiling Fans. Be sure to adjust the settings on your ceiling fans so the blades run counter-clockwise. This pulls the hot air up. In the winter reverse the setting to push the hot air down.

Block Out Sun. Use black out curtains and shades to keep rooms dark and the sunlight out. If you don’t want to buy new curtains or shades, hang a blanket or sheet to darken rooms for a temporary solution.

Turn Off Lights. Keep the lights off. My husband always asks me why I’m sitting in the dark. I always have the lights off unless they’re completely necessary. Besides saving on electricity the darker room helps keep them cooler because, well, lights do give off heat.

Use Water. Cool your body down by taking a cold shower or fill a tub with cold water to cool off your feet. You could also fill a spray bottle with water to mist everyone to help cool them off. It’s also fun for the kids!

Oven and Stove Off. During the summer we use our grill as much as possible. By doing this we don’t heat up our house from the stove and oven. Plus, we just love grilled food so much better. Use Portable Fans. Using a combination of fans is a great way to cool off. We love the Honeywell Turbo on the Go! fan and QuietSet Tower Fan. The Turbo on the Go! fan is perfect for cooling off at your desk while the Quiet Air Tower 8 is great for cooling off a whole room. These fans are absolutely amazing! I love that the Turbo on the Go! fan is portable or I can plug in to my computer’s USB for quick use.

A quarter of those who run fans while sleeping say they use it for the white noise. The top three items that Americans say contribute to their best night sleep are bedding, fans and Blackout Curtains.
