Remember last year when I made the holiday breakfast basket and introduced you to one of my faves, Don Victor® Honey? This year I wanted to get a little more creative with my homemade gifts and create something with the honey jar. The Don Victor® honey jars are unquestionably perfection for a unique gift.
I decided to bake honey apple cakes inside my empty Don Victor® honey jars to give as unique gifts for Christmas. I love that the honeycomb that comes inside the Don Victor® honey jar is perfectly edible and considered a gourmet delicacy by many. I definitely wanted to incorporate the honeycomb into my honey cake jar gifts.
Don Victor® Honey is a premium quality honey with superior taste at an affordable price – perfect for holiday gifting. I picked up several 16 oz. Don Victor® Orange Blossom Comb Honey Globe Jars while I was at Walmart the other day to create my unique gifts. The honey is located in the Hispanic Aisle if you’re having trouble locating it.
Don Victor® Honey is raw, filtered honey, not heated or processed in any other way. It’s perfect way to give an easy, inexpensive, yet gourmet gift! These honey cake jar gifts are perfect for gifting to teachers, bosses or your friends!
Honey Cake Jar Gifts
Ingredients:
- 1 Green Apple peeled, cored and grated
- 1 Egg
- 1 ¼ cup All Purpose Flour
- ½ teaspoon Baking Powder
- ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
- ½ Cup of brewed Coffee (or you can use freshly brewed tea)
- 5 Tablespoons of Vegetable oil
- ⅓ cup of Sugar
- ½ teaspoon of Cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon of Nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon of Ground cloves
- Don Victor® Orange Blossom Comb Honey Globe Jar (use 1/2 Cup and honeycomb)
- Pinch of salt
- ½ cup of Chopped Nuts, optional
You will also need empty Don Victor® honey jars to use for baking your cakes and gifting. You can find them at Walmart in a unique location, the Hispanic aisle.
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350° F. Oil the inside of the jars with vegetable oil. Place Don Victor® honey jars on a rimmed sheet pan. This will catch any drippings over the side of the jars.
Grate the green apple and squeeze any excess liquid. Place grated apple in a bowl and mix with the egg, coffee, oil, honey and a slice of honeycomb. Don’t worry, the honeycomb will mash down. Yes, the honeycomb can be eaten.
In another bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Add your favorite kind of nuts here if you’re using them.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix with a whisk until combined. Be sure you do not over mix.
Pour the mixture into the jars filling them halfway. If you fill them more they will overflow as they rise in the oven.
Bake for 25-35 minutes or until golden. You can stick a toothpick in the middle of them to be sure nothing sticks. Remove them from the oven and let cool.
After they have cooled you can place the lid back on and add a gift tag if you are giving as a gift. If you are enjoying them now, drizzle a bit of honey over the top and add a slice of honey comb. Delightful!
Be sure to store your honey at room temperature like on your kitchen counter or pantry shelf. I know it’s easy to want to put that honey in the refrigerator but this accelerates the honey’s crystallization. However, if your honey does crystallize you can place the honey jar in warm water and stir until the crystals have dissolved.
The Don Victor® Honey is also perfect on your favorite slice of bread or English muffin. It’s scrumptious when the bread is still warm lightly spread with butter. Be sure you use the comb of honey too! You may have to mash it a bit, but the heat will soften the comb so it flattens into the toast along with the honey. The honeycomb doesn’t melt, but becomes soft and aromatic! It’s also perfect on hot biscuits, French toast or pancakes.
