Most Beautiful Bedrooms

Your bedroom is the most important room in your house. It’s the room you retreat to every day and you need it to provide you the right environment for 40 winks. But the best bedrooms aren’t just a functional place to sleep in – they’re the rooms that you actively want to escape to. Going to bed shouldn’t just be something you do out of habit when you’re ready to pass out through sheer tiredness. Not if you put some thought into your bedroom anyway. You should be positively skipping up the stairs with delight.

Not convinced? The experts at the Divan Beds Centre have picked out five great bedrooms they’ve come across this year that should serve as inspiration.

All white in the night
Who said celebrities have no taste? While some do prove the old adage that ‘money doesn’t buy you taste’, some are able to display a little class and inspire us all. Celebrity couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick caught our eye with a room that proves the power of using white in interior design. The main room at their home in Bridgehampton, New York – as featured in Elle – is the epitome of a cool, calming white room, with a few choice accessories to add a splash of colour. This needn’t be too hard to replicate yourself either.

Dream of your own period drama
If you visit any stately home or historic castle, you’ll not fail to be impressed by the bedrooms. Yet you don’t just need to see history on this scale to be impressed. One home in Minehead, featured in this Telegraph gallery, caught our eye and could serve as inspiration for your dream room. Arched beams and timber in the ceiling are accompanied by classic wooden furniture and a simple-but-classy cream colour scheme.

All aboard the bedroom bus
Is your bedroom or small or unusual shape? Maybe you’re a creative person who would like a project to get your teeth stuck into? You should take inspiration from South Causey Inn in Durham. This family run hotel has made headlines by transforming a double decker London bus into accommodation and has since followed it up with eight more themed rooms. It’s worth taking a look at the bus in particular to see just what can be done if you think outside the box.

Transform for great results
Struggling to see how a drab space could be transformed into the bedroom of your dreams? Emily Henderson – a US design guru – caught our eye with her own main bedroom project in Los Angeles. She told People how she’d done it – and the guide offers some great tips for those looking to start from scratch themselves. We like the idea of using a headboard, rug or piece of art as a focal piece – with the rest then fitting into place as the ‘supporting cast’.

Star Wars by starlight
The release of The Force Awakens at the end of last year catapulted the Star Wars franchise back to the forefront of the public consciousness and inspired a whole new generation of fans. For parents who grew up with the original saga, it could be fun to embrace their child’s passion with a themed room – especially when such cool accessories as an AT-AT bed canopy exist. The image also shows how, with such features, you can then use a simple-but-effective colour scheme for a fun-but-beautiful child’s room.
