Starting the day in just the right way can be key to having a good day overall. If you find that you are sluggish and grumpy in the morning, a few changes to your routine might be key. Here are some of the things you can do to start your day well!

Stretching

We should be spending at least 8 hours sleeping, which means 8 hours of inactivity. Even if you toss and turn all night, there is a chance that you could end up stuck in a somewhat unnatural position and be left trying to deal with sore muscles in the morning. Therefore, a few quick stretches in the morning can be just the thing you need.

Stretching will also cause a small blood rush to the muscles and will help you feel more limber and awake. If you feel like you struggle to wake up in the mornings, try a little stretching before reaching for the coffee pot. You might discover that it helps you wake up a lot more naturally than a cup of coffee will! Find a quick morning stretching routine to do, or even think about heading to one of Vancouver’s many yoga studios for an instructor-led class!

Oil Pulling

Oral health is incredibly important; you’ll find lots of good advice on dentists in Vancouver BC websites recommending a broad range of different methods to help you take care of yours. One method that you might want to try is oil pulling. This is an ancient practice where you swill oil around your mouth for about 20 minutes. It can feel a little odd at first – especially suppressing the instinct to swallow – but you will soon be used to it.

Traditionally, sesame oil is used, but you can also use coconut or olive oil. Therefore, you don’t need to buy anything extra as you might already have these ingredients in your kitchen! Yes, the 20 minutes will seem like a long time, but you might be able to get on and do some other activities as you swill.

Reading

Starting the day with a little reading can be the perfect way to wake up the mind and get you focused for the tasks ahead. You could read a little more of the novel you started the night before, or you could turn to something a little more factual like the morning news.

If you go to get coffee each morning, why not combine it with reading? Take 10 minutes to sit and drink your coffee in one of Vancouver’s best coffee shops, and read something light but intellectually stimulating to help get your brain in gear.

Too many of us rush around in the morning without properly setting ourselves up for the day. You need to make sure that you have a good morning routine in place, and this can mean doing simple things like stretching and reading. Take the time to makeover your morning routine; it can be amazing how much benefit you will gain from doing so!
