I am CBD, I am THC Campaign

What is CBD

What is CBD

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of more than 80 cannabinoid compounds found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, it doesn’t produce an intoxicating high. It is booming in popularity because it is legal to mail, possess and consume in all 50 states. Research into the uses and benefits of CBD has only just begun. There is plenty of good news that shows promising ability to aid in conditions ranging from epileptic seizures to chronic pain.

Medical marijuana is legal in 31 states, which means practicing doctors can prescribe this medication. On the flip side, the medical system has not welcomed this material into their curriculum, and many doctors don’t feel comfortable prescribing it. However, if you are interested in a prescription, you can find “420” physicians in the states where medical use is legal. Here are some of the conditions for which CBD could be an appropriate treatment.

What is CBD

Diamond CBD has launched the “I am CBD, I am THC” video series nationwide to better educate the public about CBD. The national CBD educational campaign addresses the confusion surrounding CBD with a “What Is CBD” guide and a humorous video series exploring the facts and myths about CBD and THC. Diamond CBD spoofs the iconic “Get A Mac” ad campaign in this series of online videos designed to educate the public on how CBD and THC are different.

You can also learn more about CBD at the CBD education center. You can learn more about CBD and other uses for it in their online database for factual, up-to-date information about CBD.

Epilepsy

Child epilepsy syndromes can be severe and traumatic. For example, Charlotte Figi, who had Davet syndrome, was experiencing 200 to 300 grand mal seizures per week. At 5 years old, she was started on a treatment using a high-CBD strain of hemp oil, which reduced her seizures to two to three episodes per month, and only while she slept. Charlotte’s Web hemp strain CBD oil, named after this case, is now used for treating seizures that stem from any disorder, including Lennox-Gestaut syndrome.

Pain/Inflammation

Not only is CBD a safe alternative pain reliever, but users are also less likely to use any opioid painkillers. These include Fentanyl, which was involved in the deaths of celebrities Tom Petty, Mac Miller, and Prince. Synthetic opioids accounted for 30,000 overdose deaths in 2017. CBD offers pain relief without the risk of overdose or death.

Many topical CBD products can aid in the relief of joint and muscle pain. Studies on rats have shown a decrease in arthritis-related pain and swelling, which makes it a good treatment option for rheumatoid arthritis.

CBD can be used to treat anxiety and stress, which also trigger headaches and chronic pain. Several studies have concluded CBD can treat social anxiety disorder (SAD); in one survey, CBD minimized anxiety among subjects faced with public speaking, while there was no change for the placebo group.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

Researchers at the University of Nottingham compared nine healthy adults with an average age of 24. They found a reduction of systolic blood pressure (the top number of your blood pressure reading, which should be under 120) by 5 mmHg under stress and 6 mmHg at rest. Some studies have shown that smoking marijuana can cause a short, initial spike in blood pressure before it sinks to its pre-smoking level.

Sleeping

People who have trouble sleeping can use CBD to reduce stress and anxiety, which interfere with restful sleep. The ability to sleep longer and undisturbed stabilizes the sleep cycle, so you will get more REM sleep, which your body needs to get adequate rest. CBD also can alleviate chronic pain and allow you to get more quality sleep at night.

Cancer

Although research showing the potential of CBD in cancer treatment is scant, one study involving rats concluded that CBD treatment, when combined with chemotherapy, increased the survival rate by three times compared to the chemo-only group. CBD is also useful for countering some of the side-effects that come from chemotherapy treatment.

There are dozens of conditions that can be aided by the use of CBD. Unfortunately, prohibition has limited research and availability of this fantastic plant. The federal government finally acknowledged the medicinal benefits, and in 2003, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services patented CBD as a “neuroprotectant” (i.e., protects against brain damage or degeneration). More than a decade and a half later, however, the DEA still lists cannabis and CBD as a schedule I drug, with those said to have no medicinal benefit.

The compound THC can provide many of the same benefits as CBD, but as the cannabinoid that offers recreational users the intoxicating high they enjoy, it faces tighter regulations. Luckily, you can still order CBD products or buy them from your local health food store, and it is legal medicine in many states, despite the federal prohibition.
