Disney always surprises us and loves to bring us extra special treats especially during the holidays. For a limited time you can see Christmas-themed Olaf’s Frozen Adventures in theaters before COCO. Of course, we all will recognize the characters from the fan favorite Walt Disney Pictures film, Frozen (2013).
I’m sure you’ve already read all about my COCO premiere experience. While I was there I got to meet with Olaf’s Frozen Adventures Directors Stevie Wermers-Skelton & Kevin Deters, Producer Roy Conli and Songwriters Elyssa Samsel & Kate Anderson!

Here’s the perfect summary for Olaf’s Frozen Adventures:
Olaf teams up with Sven on a merry mission in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 21-minute featurette “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.” It’s the first holiday season since the gates reopened and Anna and Elsa host a celebration for all of Arendelle. When the townspeople unexpectedly leave early to enjoy their individual holiday customs, the sisters realize they have no family traditions of their own. So, Olaf sets out to comb the kingdom to bring home the best traditions and save this first Christmas for his friends.
– Written by Spencer Higham
Olaf’s Frozen Adventures will be Walt Disney Pictures’ first half-hour featurette to be theatrically released since the 1990 Mickey Mouse short film The Prince and the Pauper (1990). The featurette can only be seen for a limited time in theaters!
The Perfect Christmas Tradition
Does your family have any Christmas traditions? Arendelle is simply breathtaking adorned in Christmas decorations and snow. The townspeople are very busy with their traditions but Anna and Elsa can’t remember any from their childhood since Elsa was locked up for many years. Olaf and Sven set out on a mission to find traditions.
When you have your own family you start your own Christmas traditions. Whether it’s homemade ornaments or a favorite home cooked meal, everyone tends to have their own traditions for the holidays. It’s an important reminder and message to all of us from the featurette.
We’ll see the holiday traditions in the featurette are inspired by Scandinavian traditions. For example, Anna’s dress is a tradition of the Yule goat from Scandinavia with the goat motif. A tradition in Arendelle you’ll find in Scandinavia is ringing a bell on Christmas Eve which starts the holiday festivities.
The Music
The musical geniuses behind Olaf’s Frozen Adventures, songwriters Elyssa Samsel & Kate Anderson, came in from New York to speak with us about the songs. They really wanted to bring us as much of the world of Frozen as they could through the music.

No Disney movie or show is complete without songs! You’ll find yourself singing along with your favorite characters in no time! There are actually four new songs in this 21-minute featurette which are already available for purchase: “That Time of Year” (Reprise) – Performed by Josh Gad; “When We’re Together” – Performed by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell and Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff; “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” Score Suite – Composed by Christophe Beck and Jeff Morrow; and “The Ballad of Flemmingrad” (Traditional Version) – Performed by Jonathan Groff.

Easter Eggs
Watch closely for those hidden Easter eggs Disney places in the featurette. I think it’s something we all look forward to in all Disney and Pixar films. You’ll find some from Big Hero 6, Prep and Landing as well as others!
We also got an “Olaf” drawing demo with Animator Michael Franceschi and Animation Supervisor Chad Sellers! I’ll share more about that and my nonartistic talents in a few weeks!
