Right in the heart of our country is beautiful Wichita, Kansas and among some of my favorite Midwestern cities. You’ll find many museums, attractions, events, and restaurants during your stay. If you’re ready to explore the outdoors a mural tour is an excellent way to see the city and explore all its great parts.
A self guided tour is a great way to see as many murals as you’d like, at your own pace. Visit Wichita has an excellent updated mural tour guide on their website. The city’s urban art scene is incredible and takes many different forms but the murals are a great way to learn the personality better of each area.
You’ll find positive message murals to those representing civic pride. It’s a great way the community shows their appreciation for art. The city also some magnificent art festivals like Avenue Art Days and the Summer Mural Jam. Among the city you’ll find over 100 murals!
The “Dear Wichita, Take Care and Dream Big” mural, shown above, can be found at 1520 E Douglas. While you’re there be sure to stop by and see the “whikitty” which was one of my favorites.
The “native son” can be found at 1302 E Washington.
You can definitely spend a few days exploring the city and viewing all of the beautiful murals. You can learn more about all of the talented artists at the Avenue Art Days website.
I’m sure you’ll get hungry on your mural tour and Wichita does not disappoint when it comes places to eat and drink. I highly recommend Molino’s Mexican restaurant in Midtown on Waco Avenue. Hands down, best fish tacos I’ve ever eaten! It’s delicious and you’ll find an amazing Mexican bakery right next door.
If you’re looking for something sweet, be sure to stop by La Galette French Bakery on Douglas Avenue. I grabbed a couple of their delicious cheesecakes to-go but they offer a variety of baked goods, sandwiches & quiches.
