Tips to Keep Your Car Running Smooth with Pennzoil
I’ve had several cars and trucks over the years and one of the most important things I have learned is to be sure to always do routine maintenance like oil changes. Keeping your oil changed on time can keep your car running smooth and prolong the life of your car for years to come. We have some great tips for you to keep your car running smooth during the winter months.
1 – Oil Change. Be sure to keep your oil checked and changed on time. I can’t stress enough how important it is to keep your oil checked. The great thing about these newer model cars is that they tell us when they are ready to be serviced. My car has SERVICE in red with a car under it when mine is ready for an oil change.
I love to get the oil changed in my car at my nearest Walmart Automotive Care Center. They are usually located in the back of the store. I can easily drive around back and enter through a door to get my car serviced. I can drop, shop and oil! It’s super convenient and I can grab my groceries while I wait on my car. I’ve even had them put new tires on my cars.
My car only takes a synthetic motor oil and the Pennzoil Platinum, at Walmart, is perfect. The Pennzoil Platinum, a synthetic motor oil. offers the best cleanliness and protection in the Pennzoil line-up. With PurePlus™ Technology, the Platinum® motor oil is proven to keep pistons up to 40% cleaner than the toughest industry standard. PurePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil. All Pennzoil products help clean out sludge lesser oils leave behind. Pennzoil is designed for complete protection and will allow you to drive an extra of 550 miles per year vs. a dirty engine. No other motor oil provides better protection from friction. Pennzoil also offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction.
Once my oil is changed it resets and I can keep driving until my service light comes on again. However, be sure you check it yourself between oil changes. You never know, you could have an oil leak or your car could be using oil. If so, you might need to add a quart if the oil is low. Never allow your oil to get too low!
2 – Check Tire Pressure. Tires can actually lose pressure when the weather gets colder. Having the proper tire pressure keeps you and your family safe while traveling down the road. We have a large air compressor in our shop so it’s super easy to add air whenever we need to. My husband is great about doing this too. If you don’t have an air compressor, many gas stations offer air for a quarter. Plus, many of them have a tire gauge attached so you can check your tire pressure yourself. If you are unsure of how many pounds of pressure your tires should have in them, ask whoever put on your tires or the manual to your car might have this information.
3 – Check Your Antifreeze. When you have your car serviced they will usually check the antifreeze for you. If you are concerned about it, go to your service station and they can check it for you. This is very important when it comes to winter car care. You don’t want your engine to suffer any damage.
4 – Add Fuel Deicer. You don’t have to add this to every tank of gas. I add Heet (antifreeze/water remover) to my tank when the temperatures stay below freezing. Keep your gas tank fuller in the winter so you don’t take the chance of freezing your fuel lines. You can easily grab a bottle of this at the gas station before you fuel up your car. I always go in and purchase it, add it to my tank and then fill up my car.
5 – Carry a Car Emergency Kit. My mom actually made us an emergency kit years ago. It’s a great idea to keep one in your car at all times in case of an emergency. In my car emergency kit I like to include: a first-aid kit, reflective triangles, tire gauge, foam tire sealant, jumper cables, flashlight with extra batteries, windshield ice scraper, a warm blanket, nonperishable snacks, utility tool such as a Swiss Army Knife, tow straps, rags, gloves and drinking water.
I’ve learned these tips over the years from my husband and dad so I’ve had some experience keeping everything checked on my car and running smoothly. If you are still unsure if your car is winter weather ready, head over to the Walmart Automotive Care Center and they can help you get your car ready!

Thanks so much for the Terrific Review/Information on Tips to Keep Your Car Running Smooth with Pennzoil! We use the synthetic oil in the car as well! We have so many friends which own and or work at garages and they always take good care of our cars for us! We always get our oil changed when it’s supposed to be and my husband generally checks that everything else is ok as well. The only thing we need in the car is a Winter Kit. We have a first aid kit and reflective triangles, along with jumper cables and stuff, however, I do need to add a warm blanket, water, and some non-perishables in it as well! I know how important it is to take good care of your car especially in the winter! Thanks again for all the tips and information you have provided all of us! I truly do appreciate it! Michele 🙂
