Seventh Generation Toxin Freedom Fighters Stand up for Safer Chemicals
Join us and Seventh Generation in the Toxin Freedom Fighters Campaign! We have teamed up with Seventh Generation to help spread awareness about the importance of chemical reform in the United States. Please join us!
Our Goal: Collect 100,000 signatures in support of meaningful reform.
Create Change: Demand that Congress reevalute the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976.
I’ll be honest, chemicals scare me! After reading and learning about the chemicals and toxins all around us that are going untested, I decided it was time to take a stand with Seventh Generation! Read on and you’ll find out why I am so concerned not only for my own health but my family too!
Help us address chemical reform! Did you know that more than 80,000 chemicals available in the United States have never been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment? More than 80,000! Unbelievable! Scientists have even linked the exposure to toxic chemicals to many health risks, such as Cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and various reproductive problems.
Unlike many other major environment laws, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) has never been updated. It was passed in 1976! That’s over 35 years without any updates or changes! As it currently stands, tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals continue to be used in the marketplace since the 1970’s without proper testing and without disclosure by the companies that produce them. I’m not sure about you but that scares the heck out of me!
You can get involved and help us spread awareness! You can start by becoming a Toxin Freedom Fighter and sign Seventh Generation’s petition to urge Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976. The EPA has only required testing on less than 10% of the 80,000 synthetic chemicals introduced into the market since the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976. Help us make sure that parents and the general public are aware! Let’s help Seventh Generation reach its goal of collecting 100,000 Signatures by April 24th. You can sign the petition for chemical reform. Urge your friends and family to do the same!
What changes would you like to make in your life to reduce you and your family’s exposure to unnecessary toxins?
I started with small changes. First of all, I start with my son and thought about the everyday products he uses that could actually be toxic. I try to shop for phthalate-free products for my son that may be in personal care products, plastics or even his toys. I try to avoid metal parts on clothing or toys. Metals and be toxic.
Household products have been a big change for us this past year. There are thousands of recipes to make your own safe products online but I find that too time consuming for my busy lifestyle. I use products like Seventh Generation because I know they will provide me with environmentally-safe household products, including cleaners, paper products and personal care products.
Is following a green and eco-friendly lifestyle important to you? Take steps to avoid toxins.
Following a green and eco-friendly lifestyle has became more and more important to me over the past few years. Again, I with small changes. Not only is it better for the environment but for you and your family’s overall health too. One thing that is important to me is filtering our water. Did you know that the water in your home could contain lead? Please check with our local water district to see what’s in your water.
Check the labels on your furniture, electronics and beware of fleece pajamas because these can all contain flame retardants. I’ve gotten rid of them! Check your plastics for BPA. It’s been linked to cancer, asthma, obesity and reproductive issues. Enough said.
