The Shorkie is one of the cutest cross-bred dogs that you will find on the market today. It is what you get when you cross a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier. Shorkies are small, high energy dogs that can be a great addition to your family. They are great around children and love to snuggle with their owners after a long day of being watchful over your house and everyone within it.

You want to show the same loyalty and care to this four-legged family member by providing it with optimal care. When you welcome your choice of Shorkie for sale into your family, the following information will help you to ensure a long and fulfilled life for your Shorkie.

The Shorkie is a highly active dog therefore, needs a lot of activity to keep it happy. Walks with your Shorkie can be very pleasant. When walking your Shorkie be sure to remember that those cute little legs cannot cover the same distance that a larger dog would. If you venture too far on a walk, you may end up carrying your fuzzy friend back home or to your car.

If you have children, Shorkies can also get good exercise from playing outside in the yard with your kids. They will be protective of you children and will always alert you, with their persistent bar, about anything out of the ordinary.

Quality food

It is important to feed your Shorkie quality kibble. They are such small dogs with small teeth that they can suffer dental challenges if given the incorrect types of food. You also want to be sure that the food that you are feeding your Shorkie is formulated specifically for small, active dogs.

Regular Veterinarian visits

You are the owner of a hybrid, or designer dog, when you bring a Shorkie into your life. The cross breeding produces the cutest pet but, it brings a mix of possible health concerns. As with any dog, and particularly with the Shorkie, regular veterinarian visits will can help prevent illness. If any minor or major illness should occur, your veterinarian will be able to help you and your family through the process of making your Shorkie well again.

You can also have the veterinarian conduct regular dental checkups. During the check ups the veterinarian will clean your Shorkie’s teeth, check for tooth decay and remove any teeth that may be in bad shape.

Socializing is an important part of the well being of your Shorkie. The Shorkie is a very friendly breed of dog. They love to be around people and they love to please people. Allow your Shorkie to enjoy time with you and your friends and family. You may want to start off with just a few people. Since the Yorkie is so small in size, you have to be careful about the amount of people around when you have your four-legged family member underfoot.

Keeping your Shorkie healthy will take some work from you and your family members. Everyone should pitch in to ensure that your Shorkie has the proper amounts of exercise, quality food to eat, regular veterinarian visits and time to socialize. When everyone pitches in, you create a fantastic life for the friendly and loyal dog that you will have as the owner of a Shorkie.
