Spice Meatballs Recipe
I always double or triple this recipe. One recipe makes about a dozen balls that are 1.5″ in diameter but you can make them smaller if you like.
Ingredients
Meatballs:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 C bread crumbs
- 1/4 C milk (to cover bread)
Sauce:
- salt and pepper
- 1 C ketchup
- 1 C water
- 1/4 C sugar
- 1 T onion flakes
- 1/4 t chili powder
- 1/4 t cayenne pepper (can omitt or add more/less)
- 1 t Worcestershire sauce
Directions
Mix bread crumbs and milk together. Add more or less milk depending on how well the bread crumbs mix.
Add the bread crumb and milk mixture to hamburger. I usually use my hands to mix it well. You can add salt and pepper in this step.
Make into balls. I normally make mine about 1.5″ in diameter but you could make them smaller to eat with toothpicks easily.
Brown on stove top in a small amount of oil. I turn mine to brown all sides.
To make the sauce: mix ketchup, water, sugar, onion flakes, chili powder, cayenne pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Sauce will seem runny.
Pour the sauce over meatballs and bake in the oven at 350° for 45 minutes. Sauce needs to be cooked down.

These are so tasty and versatile! I plan on making them for my family ASAP. Personally, I like having these alone as just a snack. It’s so cool how many entrees and recipes you can add these to. Instant leftovers!

OK, sold! I think the sweetness will be balanced by the cayenne. I never used to eat anything even slightly spicy…like pepper! But I’ve eased into enjoying a bit of spice over the years and this sounds delicious. I may make them for my family’s next “appetizers for dinner” night!

I’ll take the meatballs and you can keep the medicine since I don’t get heartburn.

Sounds quite delicious, though a pinch of cumin would enhance this recipe, I think.
