We live right across from the graveyard and so I’ve been taking the kids for walks through the paths over there at different times of the day, just to get them used to it and not afraid. It’s been a great time to talk and just spend time together. The other kids at school are now starting to question how spooky it is for them, but we insist that our kids are tougher for it and there is nothing to be scared of. Besides, we remind them that it is a privilege to be close to where people’s loved ones have been laid to rest. It is a special memorial to those who have lived in our town before us and it is to be respected, not feared.

Although we live just minutes from the beach, we haven’t gone there much in the past few years because we have had very young kids. This year, my husband took a day off of work and joined a bunch of other surfers enjoying the waves left over from a tropical storm and the kids and I watched him and played in the sand and surf. Later, he joined us and we had a wonderful family time! The weather was also perfect and there were no jellyfish. It doesn’t get better than that! 🙂
