Custom Dog Painting of Man’s Best Friend
Are you looking for the perfect gift for the dog or cat owner in your life? A hand-painted custom dog painting from their pet’s photo is the perfect gift this holiday season. Have a pet’s photo transformed into a cherished work of art! Has your loved one lost a pet? This is the perfect memorial for them to have their beloved pet always near them with a custom pet portrait painting. Personalized pet artwork is the absolute perfect and unique gift for any pet owner. Melissa Smith Art can create this personalized gift for you!
One of my favorite things about Melissa Smith Art is how she helps save the lives of homeless pets in YOUR OWN neighborhood! When you order your pet portraits 10% of your pet painting order will be donated to the non profit pet rescue organization you choose in your area! You can help make a difference! Pet rescues are so important to me and I believe this is a fabulous gift in itself! I have taken in so many pets over the years. We all know what a huge cat lover I am but we also have two sweet puppies now. Spay and neuter your cats and dogs! Pet overpopulation is such a huge problem in this country! I cannot seem to stress this enough to people.
The Prcoess
Here is an example of a commission Melissa Smith Art painted of Misty, the Boston Terrier and how the process works.
1. The client places an order on the website www.melissasmithart.com/shop specifying painting details, pet charity 10% of their order is donated to, and pet reference photos.
Here’s the beginning photo:
Doesn’t Misty look like a sweetheart?
2. Photos are posted of the paintings in progress on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so the client and fans can see the painting come to life. How neat! See more progress below:
3. To see the finished artwork go here.

The Artist
Melissa Smith is a self-taught artist originally from the beautiful countryside of Upstate New York. Raised on magnificent farmland there, surrounded by animals and nature, inspired her to become an adamant animal lover and influenced her creative passion.
Melissa started painting pet portraits after a department store shopping trip in 2005 where she laughed out loud after spotting a framed poster of “Major General Woof” by Massy then went home to paint something similar of her rescued Chihuahua mix. She has found that being a pet portrait artist is her true life passion, especially capturing candid moments in time, in a cherished pet’s life.
“Our pets give us unconditional love and I am proud to have found a way to honor and commemorate them. The bond between pet and human companion and the profound love people have for their pets truly inspires me, and there is nothing that gives me greater joy than my client’s reactions to their completed painting!”
This dog obsessed artist currently lives near Dallas, TX with her husband and their two Chihuahua mix rescues, Dacs and Fox, and shares her heart and home fostering numerous dogs for
a local pet rescue.

This would make a perfect gift for my boss. She is completely obsessed with her cats and since she has no children they are her whole life. I will investigate this and may get the staff to get it for her.

I herd about these somewhere else, can’t remember. But I would love nothing more to have a few of my pets done, when I get money of course.
I have a dog, who unfortunately wont be with us much longer. he’s 13 & not doing as well as he used to. I would get him done first. <3
