Create Your Own Inside Out Puppet Show
Have you taken your kids to see Disney Pixar’s Inside Out in theaters yet? If so, I am sure you fell in love with all of Riley’s emotions as much as we did. I was so excited when I went to Walmart the other day and stumbled upon their exclusive Inside Out plush products. They had all the emotions; Anger, Sadness, Fear, Joy and Disgust. I bought each one of the emotions so my son could create his own fun Inside Out puppet show! I even found some cute Kellogg’s Inside Out fruit snacks during my trip to Walmart!
It’s been raining here a lot so we created our puppet stage in the machine shed. With the help of my son and my mom we were able to put together a fun little stage for our Inside Out emotions. You can easily create a unique stage with things you have around your house.
We wanted to recreate the control room where the Emotions stood in the Inside Out movie. Here’s some of the supplies we used:
We tried to gather various colored items that might look like controls such as cupcake pans with lids, silver spice canisters and plastic cups. My son thought these would be fun to use. Your children can come up with so many unique ideas so be sure to let them help.
We started with 2 sawhorses and an old piece of white particle board. This would be our stage.
We had a hanging rack we used to drape our material for curtains. Of course, don’t forget your chairs for the audience!
We also used a step ladder for filling with the memories. The memories are round balls in the movie so we used Christmas ornaments! Don’t forget to add curtains, drapes or some type of backdrop. We used some scrap material we had on hand for the backdrop.
We found a plastic roll of table covering we used for the front curtains.
For your puppets you can use wire, fishing string or your hands to move them around on the stage. We hung wire for our plush but my son ended up using his hands most of the time during his show.
We also created a fun sign for the front of our stage. My son also made sure we added the show time!
We added our controls and core memories.
My son was able to easily hide behind the stage to put on a show.
Check out my son below sharing one of his favorite lines from the movie, Inside Out:
Have your kids create their own emotion puppet show. Let them share how they are feeling by acting it out! It’s a great way for you to help them with any emotional problems they may be going through if they feel they can’t directly say it.
Do you have any ideas on how to help kids work through their emotions?

I love the marionette style stage for your puppet show! This movie was long overdue for teaching kids – and adults – to cope with their emotions! #client

This is so creative and would be perfect fun for my little ones to do on a day during the week when it isn’t too hot outside for their neighborhood friends. Adorable!

I used to do this sort of thing with my sister when we were kids. My son would not be into it…too bad because we had such fun as little kids.

This is a great rainy day or just too hot to go outside (its been over 100 degrees all week here) project! There is so much screen time going on in my house, that this is just what my kids need, to spend some time together, doing something creative that they have never done before!
