Be Prepared with a Winter Ready Car Kit
With the arctic air moving in here and many other areas today it made me think about being sure I have a winter ready car kit available. In the event of an accident or car trouble are you prepared? I actually am but I wanted to share some tips on what I believe are important to have in your car for any situation in this brutally cold winter weather.
I suggest getting a large bag or something to keep everything in one place in the trunk of your car.
I include the following items:
- Flashlight
- Blanket
- Hand Warmers
- Ice scraper
- Folding Shovel
- Emergency car hammer
- Wind up radio
- Flares
- Snacks – trail mix, energy bars, crackers
- Water in cooler (keeps it from freezing)
- Toilet paper
- Waterproof Matches
- First aid kit
- De-icer
You can purchase these items separately or even buy your own kits already assembled. I tried to find a few that I thought would be good although I might add a few things to them. I found these:
You can also find some great survival kits online. I think it’s always a great idea to be prepared for any emergency whether at home or in your car.
Keep you and your family safe in emergency situations and the winter weather. Be sure everything has batteries and you check them regularly or keep a few spares in your glove box. We are also AAA members so I can quickly call a tow truck in case of any emergency. I suggest becoming a member or asking your insurance company to add towing to your policy. It really does come in handy when you need it and is worth every penny.
Also, be sure to check your tires, antifreeze and your car in general regularly. You can also keep some Heet gas treatment on hand for those really cold temps. It absorbs water in your gas tank and can prevent your gas lines from freezing.
Any suggestions on what to keep in your emergency preparedness kit for your car or truck? Let us know below in the comments.

This is a good blog post. I don’t think that most people have these items in their car and it is better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them..If not already in vehicle I would add a window breaker.
